I do however have a DSLR but it's kind of awkward taking pictures of my hair myself using that, but as soon as I figure out how I will be posting pics. (I would use my cell phone but I don't particularly like the quality of the pics....it's kinda crappy)MizzBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11951768545886095911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6955448442338248286.post-37858807174480941062011-03-03T10:12:00.003-05:002011-03-03T10:15:28.074-05:00Experiment updateI know this update is kind of late but after leaving the conditioner in over night and rinse out the next morning I'm kind of on the fence about how I feel about the results. My hair was soft and felt moisturized but not quite like I like it. I will be playing around with this (maybe add a thicker base) and see how I like it. But for the most part it is effective if you don't need/want a lot of moisture.MizzBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11951768545886095911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6955448442338248286.post-72821059594413716282011-02-28T22:17:00.002-05:002011-02-28T22:27:32.323-05:00Experiment...So tonight I decided to wash my hair with Elasta Qp Intensive Treatment Stimulating Shampoo (this wasn't the experiment I just like the tingle and I needed to shampoo my hair). Now here is the experiment: I needed a deep conditioner AND I wanted to try out a new product that I picked up earlier today (V05 Tea Therapy Calming Chamomile). Normally I use V05 as a cowash conditioner but I had never used the Tea Therapy "flavors". Instead of using this for cowashing, I decided that I would mix up my own deep conditioner. So I squirted out some of the conditioner, added some honey and some EVOO, mixed it in a small bowl, then applied the mixture to my hair in sections, twisted each section (6 in all), placed a conditioning cap on my head covered with a satin bonnet, and I'm leaving it on overnight. I will rinse it out in the morning and come back to report how my "experiment" turned out.MizzBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11951768545886095911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6955448442338248286.post-43254053720125495062011-02-21T21:33:00.003-05:002011-02-21T21:39:09.422-05:00Tracking my hair growthJust wanted to share how I've been tracking my growth. Unfortunately I haven't been taking any pictures (I most definitely need to and will be) but I have been using a spreadsheet that was mentioned over at naturallycurly.com.
http://www.naturallycurly.com/curltalk/growing-out/105669-hair-growth-chart.html

This chart is great!!! It is helping me make realistic goals and allowing me to know approximately when I will reach those goals.MizzBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11951768545886095911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6955448442338248286.post-59330079863761529912011-02-21T21:22:00.002-05:002011-02-21T21:30:23.596-05:00Vitamin Regimen Starting 02/22/2011Tomorrow, Tuesday, February 22, 2011, I will be beginning a vitamin regimen both for my health and for my hair. I will be taking a women's one a day multivitamin with breakfast; 500mg MSM (may increase gradually later on)with lunch; Super B complex, 500 mg Vitamin C, and 1000mcg Biotin (this also may gradually increase later on) with dinner. I will take these for a few months to see if there will be any difference. I am taking the multivitamin for overall health, MSM for my knees and also hair, and the others are mostly for hair (Vitamin C will also help for my immune system because it seems like I'm always catching a cold). I will keep everyone updated on my progress.MizzBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11951768545886095911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6955448442338248286.post-25627618067316228262011-02-14T15:49:00.002-05:002011-02-22T10:06:36.755-05:00And the winner is....
Photo from MTV.com

I do not/did not watch the Grammy's but I was excited to know that Esperznza Spalding (one of my natural hair inspirations) won best new artist. I cried. "Be still!" mom said. I was a thick haired, tender headed child. Mom was never much of a hair person so she often did not know what to do with my hair. Most of the time, growing up, I wore my hair braided (cornrows, singles, crochet...you name it I probably had it) with the occasional press and curl (if it was a holiday i.e. Easter, Mother's Day, Christmas, etc.). I NEVER was allowed to wear my hair loose (often heard "You have too much hair for that.") so although I didn't have a relaxer, I unfortunately did not know what my natural texture looked like.

Soon mom became frustrated and impatient, so at the age of eleven (right before starting middle school) my mom had one of my older cousins apply a relaxer to my hair (dad wasn't very happy...). As I waited for the relaxer to process (and felt for the first time "the dreaded tingle")I anticipated seeing myself for the first time with straight, silky hair instead of the braided or puffy, somewhat straight hair (now that I think back, all I can do is shake my head). After the relaxer was rinsed out, my hair was blowed dried and styled...and so the process continued every 8-12 weeks for the next seven years.

At the age of 18, upon graduating high school, I decided that to symbolize me being an adult and the change from high school to college, that I would stop getting relaxers and go natural. So I set out to find as much information I could about natural hair and growing my hair longer. I would spend hours upon hours on hair forums, and spent dollars upon dollars trying hair products. Once I felt I was armed with enough information, I walked into my nearest Hair Cuttery one February morning in 2006 and had all of my relaxed ends cut off. The stylist kept asking if I was REALLY sure I wanted to cut off THAT much hair (was about BSL at the time). I remember taking a deep breath and saying "DO IT!" When I walked out of the shop I was suddenly unsure if I had made the right decision. For the next, 3-4 months I wore my hair flat ironed, a phoney pony, or headwrap. Soon I became comfortable with my natural hair. I was able to find products and techniques that worked with my hair and I received many compliments.

Fast forward to April 2008. I began to get bored with my hair so I decided that I would relax my hair (ugh "the dreaded tingle" AGAIN). I remember sitting in my kitchen one Friday night and having my dad apply a virgin relaxer application to my hair. I would then receive a touch up every 12 weeks until November 2009.

2009 was an interesting year for me. I graduated college in May, I cut my APL hair to a SL bob in June, my best friend moved to the other side of the world in July, started graduate school in August, got my last relaxer on November 6, chopped my then slightly grown out SL bob to a chin length assymetrical bob later that month, watched the movie "Good Hair", and decided to transition again to natural hair in December.

In 2010, I pretty much used protective styles and did not use heat. On November 20, 2010, after a veryyyyyyyyyyyyyy frustrating experience, I stood in front of my bathroom mirror and began cutting my hair (6 months before I had originally planned). At first I thought "What am I doing?!?" but soon I became excited and liberated. Now I have decided that I will NEVER use another relaxer and I am embarking on a lifelong (??) journey to healthy, long, natural hair.MizzBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11951768545886095911noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6955448442338248286.post-9670645888031053612010-02-04T22:37:00.005-05:002010-02-04T23:00:50.031-05:00Makeup Haul<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbxsbVwF56ok9j9fChoDSFNNKygl3CbjVXvEx5Hrc4wXCt-w78t8KHwRR7SVWUPSmIq3Y-m5h0lF5JNt6aZzqWxhYPZwOcCB7MC_NrP2dcrQ-HiZPXoEB4ZVTfk3a-4FwJHS1Z1DEVdAnS/s400/CIMG0684.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5434600143055334162" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEij_MsQuKQDnVaPrJaidG-bjZAG2cQzF0-25BHixMciPSqTH9SGyqyo7nMj7CyyCDz0ZC_cg8gAQ-YejW_ZgOqJj6dU8hYrkyNM5ScKjWvtW_JNh53Wvf8rr4yHzYC9J0lEXCwgr-gShjJB/s400/CIMG0682.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5434600137572129362" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjH2mpFVkN45rNyeRAjFSOkLqAMy1v8kl-tc67l0SREa1jFNlKlTC1EwAOL0rt8axaLmpxmL704qRdkHl7gEGfKsLfrX5f3kIeUxTChEB1fy8shksy1beOlEaug0vxzhKU8Ui3NxvfdBEQu/s400/CIMG0681.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5434600129202235826" />
So within the last couple of days I have purchased what you see above (including the container currently housing my products).
I bought:
Wet n Wild Silk Finish Lipstick in 501B ($0.93 @ Walmart)
Wet n Wild Silk Finish Lipstick in 509A ($0.93 @ Walmart)
Wet n Wild Silk Finish Lipstick in 521A ($0.93 @ Walmart)
Wet n Wild Silk Finish Lipstick in 525D ($0.93 @ Walmart)
Wet n Wild Silk Finish Lipstick in 534A ($0.93 @ Walmart)
Wet n Wild Silk Finish Lipstick in 553B ($0.93 @ Walmart)
Sally Hansen Satin Effects Lip Gloss in Glamorous ($1.00 @ Dollar Tree)
Sally Hansen Satin Effects Lip Gloss in Intrigue ($1.00 @ Dollar Tree)
Sally Hansen Satin Effects Lip Gloss in Tempting ($1.00 @ Dollar Tree)
Sally Hansen Moist & Matte Liquid Color in Chiffon ($1.00 @ Dollar Tree)
Sally Hansen Moist & Matte Liquid Color in Linen ($1.00 @ Dollar Tree)
Sally Hansen Moist & Matte Liquid Color in Shauntung ($1.00 @ Dollar Tree)
L'Oreal On the Loose Shimmering Powder in Vintage ($1.00 @ Dollar Tree)
N.Y.C. If I knew for sure I could have a promising career as a makeup artist, I would aspire to become one. But because I may or may not be able to make a living (especially with all the other competition) I have stuck to being what I call a "hobby makeup artist". I pretty much just do my own, my mom's, aunts', cousins', and friends' makeup. One of my cousins calls me her "personal stylist" because I frequently do her hair and makeup. My best friend (who never wears makeup because she says "I don't even know where to begin")has been my canvas several times. One of her (and mine) favorite looks that I did for her was a black, gray, and gunmetal smokey eye, with bronze blush, and a slightly pink, nude lip. I did this for her birthday right before we went out for the night (she got soooooo many compliments and her hubby loved it). I love to be experimental especially with eye makeup. I will try anything from neutral to bright & bold. I just love it....okay enough of my rambling...MizzBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11951768545886095911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6955448442338248286.post-36399257103106191842010-01-29T21:21:00.002-05:002010-01-29T21:29:25.792-05:00I'm so excited....and I just can't hide it LOL!So I saw one of my cousins a few days ago and she was asking me about my hair. It seems that I've inspired her to transition. Now this is a big deal because she's the type of person that always felt she had to have straight hair. She would relax every 6 weeks and relaxed bone straight. So we're talking and she mentions that she's growing her hair out naturally because she's tired of relaxing her hair and wants to see what her natural hair looks like (she's been relaxed since she was 3...I know bad bad baddddddddd...and she's now 21 so she's pretty much never seen her natural texture). I just made 12 weeks into my transition as of today and she will be 12 weeks into her's on Sunday, January 31, so she's only a few days off from me so this should be a fun journey for us both. (That's 2 people I've convinced to go natural, let's see how many more I can convince ;) )MizzBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11951768545886095911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6955448442338248286.post-19693348275394333882010-01-24T19:14:00.002-05:002010-01-24T19:18:10.525-05:00Just Checking inSo I just made 11 weeks post on Friday, January 22, 2010. So far so good. I just need to start coming up with some styles I can do to help make this transition easier. I had planned on braiding my hair the end of this month when I had some time off, but some things have come up which means I will not have the time to sit down and braid my hair. So until I can get some free time I need to find something to do to my hair that will not take hours at a time....This is gonna be interesting considering I'm growing out an assymetrical bob so these varying lengths is beginning to drive me crazy (I may end up BC'ing sooner if the length gets to be too much)MizzBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11951768545886095911noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6955448442338248286.post-57871091479406262672010-01-09T01:12:00.005-05:002010-01-09T01:21:23.047-05:00Braids/twists: Protective & transitioning styleSo I've been searching the internet, watching vids on youtube, and looking at a book I've had for a couple of years (Hair Talk: Stylish Braids From African Roots by Duyan James) and I have come up with some braid styles I would like to try this year. First, it will either be yarn braids or hair lacing/individual tree braids (Haven't quite decided yet, but I plan to braid my hair at the end of this month). Other types of braids/twists i would like to do this year unless I find one I really like (in no particular order): nubian twists, kinky twists, pixies, individual braids with the ends left out (can't deal with the itty bitty micro braids),senegalese twists, and cornrows. I am determined to learn how to do these myself (youtube is about to be a very useful tool...)MizzBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11951768545886095911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6955448442338248286.post-19018822839678873192010-01-04T21:29:00.004-05:002010-01-04T21:35:38.056-05:00Thinking about braiding my hairI'm considering braiding my hair up for awhile. I am transitioning and do not want to be tempted to relax. This will also allow me to protect my hair especially with school starting back soon (I won't have a lot of extra time on my hands to be dealing with my hair). I'm thinking my first braid set will be yarn braids (they're cute and I love the look of locs but don't think I'm quite ready to loc my own hair; I'll be able to experiment with the look of locs but also enjoy my loose hair after they're taken down) I'm also thinking that I may keep my hair braided for the majority (if not all) of the year. I think this will help me with the long transition I have planned. Hmmm...we'll see...MizzBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11951768545886095911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6955448442338248286.post-48659188422533601482010-01-02T22:04:00.003-05:002010-01-02T22:14:25.195-05:00A Look Back at my 2009 ResolutionsSo these were my resolutions for 2009:
*Start back getting serious about exercise
*Gain about 10-15 healthy pounds (I need it)
*Continue taking care of my hair so I can reach my goals
*Eat healthier
*Improve my GPA by the time I graduate in May
*Get a better job
*Move out of my parents house
*Read the entire Bible in a year
*Be as stress free as possible

Needless to say, I didn't quite stick with all of them. I have become so lazy when it comes to excercising (it's been about 6 or 7 months since I've been to the gym). Still taking care of my hair but instead of getting longer it's getting shorter (because I keep cutting it...). Diet still looks the same and I'm actually a few pounds lighter (ughh trying to get from 112lbs to at least 130lbs)Still working the same job and living with my parents (although I did get a promotion=decent pay raise...still want a new job though). Graduated college in May with a GPA that wasn't much better HOWEVER in grad school I'm doing EXCELLENT!!!Have yet to completely read the Bible. I did manage to let go of some people that I didn't need in my life, have started to focus more on me rather than what others and what they think of me (I still like to help people as much as possible, but came to realize that I can't give all of me)Overall, I wasn't as stressed.

This year I have only one resolution...to live and enjoy my life one day at a time (easy enough :) )MizzBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11951768545886095911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6955448442338248286.post-72681010787154908532010-01-01T16:52:00.007-05:002010-01-02T22:15:36.496-05:002010 New Year UpdateFirst, let me say Happy New Year to everyone. It's been awhile since I've wrote anything here. I'm a full time graduate student and I work full time so I have been busy. I'm on break now so I decided to let everyone know what I've been up to. I have decided to transition again (I started transitionin back in June '05, BC'd in February'06 and re-relaxed in April '08. As of today, I am 8 weeks (2 months post). I really miss my curls. I plan to transition for awhile this time around. Last time I transitioned for 8 months, this time I plan to transition for 1.5-2 years and gradually trim my ends. With this transition, I plan to remain natural for the rest of my life. I've been seeing, through my own personal research, pictures of women who are permanently bald due to relaxer damage. I do not want to lose my hair and compromise my health because of a chemical so that is really motivating me to transition and remain natural. I plan to try to update this blog at least once a week to document my transition. (Oh and in other news, I've convinced my mom to transition with me, but won't be documenting her progress because she doesn't want me to post her's online, so gotta respect mama). Until later...MizzBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11951768545886095911noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6955448442338248286.post-28184949760331097532009-08-09T18:23:00.004-04:002010-01-02T22:15:20.022-05:00UpdateWell I haven't been up here in a while. I cut my hair back in June. It's a layered between jaw length and shoulder length bob. I like it. It just took awhile getting use to not being able to put all of my hair in a ponytail. Yet again I'm tired of my hair. This time I'm thinking of transitioning. I kinda miss my natural curls. The other night I saw a girl with a fierce head full of curls. It was GORGEOUS and that really made me start to miss my curls even more. Hmmm...Decisions, decisions.MizzBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11951768545886095911noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6955448442338248286.post-87775509893412922272009-04-10T21:21:00.002-04:002009-04-10T21:30:49.725-04:00Hear ye, Hear ye....Wow it's been a while since I've posted. Well, hmmm...., Long Hair Dreams just may have to become Short Hair Dreams. I've never had short hair before, but I'm getting tired of my hair and I've been loving all the short haircuts I've been seeing lately. I feel that it's time for a change.I've already began chopping at my hair. A few weeks ago it was between APL and BSL, even all the way around. Now it's layered between SL and APL with a long bang (I did the whole cut all by myself.) I'm thinking about getting a angled chin length bob to kind of gradually ease into short hair. Then after awhile I would like to try a Rihanna-esque short cut.I'm almost 22 and have the rest of my life to have long hair. Right now I just want to have fun and experiment with my hair.MizzBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11951768545886095911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6955448442338248286.post-75113916148479686612009-01-20T22:57:00.002-05:002009-01-20T23:00:12.067-05:00Sally's GVP Joico K-PakSo I've been using this for about three weeks and I must say that I am in love. This reconstructor has my hair feeling stronger and thicker!!! I think this may be a keeper. I have been using this weekly, following it up with my deep conditioner, and rollersetting for the past three weeks. I have seen a noticeable difference in my hair. This just may be the product to help me retain every bit of growth I get this year....MizzBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11951768545886095911noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6955448442338248286.post-73311409209205548992009-01-19T08:30:00.003-05:002009-01-19T08:44:19.011-05:00New Goal!!!!!So, I've realized that I only have about 1.5" til I'm touching BSL. I'm pretty confident that I'll reach that goal so I've changed my goal for this year. I am going to go for MBL by December 31,2009. I only have 4.5" til I hit this goal so I believe it is pretty realistic for me (12" mark on my t-shirt). Hopefully I can get to MBL or close to it.
(Also, I have 9" til I get to WL, my ultimate goal for now)MizzBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11951768545886095911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6955448442338248286.post-91993394028899623502009-01-07T11:53:00.002-05:002009-01-07T11:57:01.728-05:00AAAGHHH!!!!!Last night I realized that.......my nape is BREAKING!!!!! I just about screamed. I decided "That's enough, no more flat ironing for me." I had flat ironed my hair for the holiday and prior to this there was no breakage. Now my nape has broken off to about shoulder length.:( I refuse to let this set me back. I am so close to my goal. Time for me to baby that area while continuing to care for my hair.MizzBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11951768545886095911noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6955448442338248286.post-65886208502115442152009-01-07T11:45:00.004-05:002009-01-07T11:51:25.409-05:00Aug. 15,2008-Dec. 31,2008 Progress<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 339px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXzJ_aOA7WuXVG-PIEKC7nZ4LtSxryt5s-M7wlF97JdHqWz-rtnkl7_umdienaP-EnFx3l1u-nDNEVrqEbhtUCzFo9sIQURNmZ_ittmTiIwz3xOGl_m0zUBWncHHuxtngoaVWoBrS8hbtg/s400/progress.bmp" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5288594446679707202" />

I know I'm a bit late with this...but here is my progress for the end of 2008. I would have liked to see more progress but I can't complain. I retained about 1.5 inches in 4 months (after a dusting)!!!! This year I hope to see even more progress.MizzBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11951768545886095911noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6955448442338248286.post-44226032993702142372009-01-02T10:17:00.002-05:002009-01-02T10:21:56.575-05:00In Search of a New MoisturizerI have come to the conclusion that the cause of my once again frizzy ends is glycerin based products. My hair DOES NOT like them. Glycerin is drying my ends out. At first, glycerin products such as Wave Nouveau and Care Free Gold seemed to be helping. Now after using them for a few months, my ends are once again dryer than the Sahara Desert. I do not have split ends because I just dusted my ends and there's not a split in sight. This is very frustrating and I must do something about it ASAP!!!! I refuse to let this stop me from reaching my goal for this year.MizzBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11951768545886095911noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6955448442338248286.post-49111613316081718152008-12-30T22:54:00.001-05:002008-12-30T22:56:30.806-05:00New Year's ResolutionsSeeing as New Years is right around the corner, I've thought about some resolutions I would like to try to stick with in the upcoming year.

My new years resolutions are:
*Start back getting serious about exercise
*Gain about 10-15 healthy pounds (I need it)
*Continue taking care of my hair so I can reach my goals
*Eat healthier
*Improve my GPA by the time I graduate in May
*Get a better job
*Move out of my parents house
*Read the entire Bible in a year
*Be as stress free as possibleMizzBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11951768545886095911noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6955448442338248286.post-85777165970888434312008-12-30T22:45:00.003-05:002008-12-30T22:51:34.677-05:00Morrocan Method (2009 Lunar Haircutting Calendar)I was on BHM (Black Hair Media) earlier and saw a post about using the Lunar Calendar to help benefit in the health and growth of the hair. It seems very interesting so I've decided that I'm gonna give it a try in the upcoming year. It can't hurt...if anything I'll have even healthy ends at the end of the year. Also, a member mentioned the Vermont Cocktail which is supposed to help promote growth progress. I'm also gonna try this as this is an all natural "growth aid". I will keep you all updated on my progress with this method. For more information on this method you can visit www.morroccomethod.com You'll find the calendar and the recipe plus other beneficial info.MizzBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11951768545886095911noreply@blogger.com3
